In April Holmes Chapel Singers hosted their first Come and Sing for Hospices Day choosing to perform the very popular The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins.   The concert, hosted by the Holmes Chapel Singers and Orchestra conducted by Philip Crookall, was to benefit local hospices, Hope House, Oswestry, the donna louise trust in Stoke on Trent and St. Luke’s Cheshire Hospice in Winsford all of whom give such wonderful care and support to the terminally ill and their families.  The day raised £4950 for the hospices.

On Saturday 28th June at the Holmes Chapel Singers Summer Prom Concert cheques were presented to representatives of the three hospices, Dennis Eborall from St. Luke’s, Michael Wainwright from the donna louise trust and Graham and Shirley Morris from Hope House each received cheques for £1650 from the Holmes Chapel Singers chairman Jackie Thorpe.
She said that the response from singers to the Come and Sing for Hospices Day far exceeded expectations with people coming from as far away as Hull, Cumbria and Worthing to join in the event.  After day time rehearsals there was an evening performance with a choir of just under 200 singers, mainly made up of people from a very wide local area including members of choirs from Holmes Chapel, Knutsford,  Sandbach, Congleton, Middlewich, Nantwich, Frodsham, Macclesfield, Wilmslow and Stoke on Trent.  Everyone gave of their best for this ‘come and sing’ performance and the choir and orchestra sounded confident, polished and very professional for just a couple of rehearsals.  She thanked everyone for taking part and particularly the event organisers Sue Speakman and Rosemary Dear.

The organisers of the Holmes Chapel Come and Sing Day , Sue Speakman and Rosemary Dear, said that they were delighted with result of what had been a wonderful evening’s music.

“ To raise £4950 is a fantastic result and far exceeded our wildest dreams. We would particularly like to thank the soloists and the orchestral musicians, all of whom gave their services free, and to give very sincere and grateful thanks to all those who took part in this very special fundraising event.  We have had financial support from Congleton Borough Council and Holmes Chapel Parish Council and we are very grateful to them.  We couldn’t have done it without the support of so many singers from around the area and those who came along to listen, all of whom have been very generous.  We would also like to thank the Holmes Chapel St. Luke’s Support Group who provided excellent refreshments throughout the day and raised an additional £636 for their funds.”
